Straight teeth and a functionally correct bite are essential, but our practice also focuses on a healthy jaw joint (temporomandibular joint or TMJ). The jaw should open and close without difficulty, as well as move side to side and forward and back. Any limitation in range of motion, history of locking when open or closed, and unusual joint souns- crepitus and popping, are all analyzed before treatment begins. If a problem is detected, we would give a recommendation to the proper specialist to resolve the problem before treatment starts.
